WHY DO WE NEED CROSSED KEYS CONSULTING?

Throughout the many dioceses we've visited we've been blessed to meet many great people. We've seen a variety of churches, schools, neighborhoods and cultures. But we've also seen one constant: Protecting our sacred spaces is often left to chance.

Too often schools and churches put the task of security, risk management and loss prevention into the hands of well-meaning volunteers, teachers (especially the guys!) and, most frequently, the maintenance staff. All of these folks, and more, have a role to play in our "Cycle of Protection,™" however they are not security professionals. Even institutions with a quality security department already in place will benefit from our "Train the Trainer" sessions on incorporating our faith into your plans.

That's an outstanding first step, and we're glad to hear it! That said, more communities are beginning to cut police budgets which typically leads to increased response times, decreased training hours, and fewer officers available to respond to emergencies.

What we see frequently are members of the parish, or parents in the school, who are very passionate about helping our pastors and principals with their plans. Until they get busy. Or put on a new shift. Or move away. We value them and will certainly include them in our process.

But ask yourself: Can they bring a holistic approach to evaluating your needs? Do they have vetted vendors with a nation-wide reach that can bid projects competitively? Have they assembled a team of retained experts that are a text message away from providing advice and counsel? Can they help design CCTV systems that are unobtrusive? Will they tell you that votive candles are (or are not) a fire hazard? Do they have fraud examiners who can find where the missing money may be? Can they visit your high school campus for a week at a time to complete a truly comprehensive evaluation?
